Fork action

The north western end of our back lawn is not in very good shape, what with the shade from the trees and one thing and another. So spiking action was indicated: half Saturday, half Sunday. Spiking with the small fork in rows about nine inches apart and with the prongs of the fork going in about five inches at about 45 degrees.

With one snag being that the foxes are apt to take an interest in the disturbed ground, with one bit of fox action being marked with the small flag in the snap left. No idea why there is a green patch behind the flag, but the green patch in front is where there used to be a Christmas tree. Long gone, but the patch still comes through in times of trouble, just like they do in aerial photographs of stone age settlements. Or on the roundabout in Meadway, where some years ago the rose beds were filled in, no-one in the big houses round about wanting to take on any responsibility for them.

Quite startled at one point when a middle sized earth worm, maybe four inches long, shot out of a hole and slithered off to the left (in the snap). Quite surprised at how fast it could move when it wanted to.

I shall take the hose to this bit of lawn later today. Maybe some water going down the holes will help.
