Ewell by-pass

The Meadway roundabout was looking good at the start of this morning's Ewell by-pass anti-clockwise, with the buttercups more than making up for the absence of dandelions, now down to a few clocks.

I noticed that a lot of the verges around Ewell West have been shorn, so no doubt the shearers will get around to Meadway in the not too distant future. Perhaps I ought to lobby the houses around Meadway and then the council about just cutting once or twice a year, rather than once a month. The council seems to have got the idea in at least some of its parks, for example Nonsuch Park.

Fair number of people wandering around Epsom, some rather carelessly assembled around bus stops.

A chip shop at the Organ crossroads advertising call and collect. So perhaps something to be tried when we tire of roast beef and home cooking. Although the shop at Horton Retail might be more convenient, with both parking onsite and open space (Horton Country Park) not far away. Although a quick look for their web site, which seems not to exist, reveals a wide range of comments from TripAdvisor. Do people really wade through all this stuff? Do the owners of fish and chip shops wade thought it? Trying not to get too worked up about what they read on the way?

Hook Road Arena firmly shut to vehicles, but open for dog walkers. Some of them, but no games and no sunbathers to be seen from the gates at 1100. Limited space for parking outside the gates, probably forbidden.

Home to take the plunge and postpone our forthcoming holiday to the Isle of Wight until next July, that is to say July 2021. Too old to be taking the risks involved in travel, ferries, beaches, restaurants and cafés for the time being. Not to mention public houses. And no longer young enough to be spending all day marching across the virus-free high downs carrying picnics.

The first time we have missed the Isle of Wight since the year of the bag, 2012, when we went to north Norfolk. See references 1 and 2.
