Catering

Brick movements today were disturbed by two catering projects.

First, we had the 560th batch of bread, with the finished result snapped left. Polly want to have the tallest loaf all to herself, while Pedro and Yuri had to make do with the low rise one, the one that bumped into the shelf above and burst. Pedro is finding it hard to keep his footing on the edge of the scar. While Yuri had a go on the other one later, when no-one was around, and managed to break through the bubble, falling into the cavern below. It was some time before he was rescued. Typical.

Note the straightforward mechanical timer from Sainsbury's - not to be had at the usually useful Lakeland in the High Street.

Second, we had the second go in a fortnight at beef soup, more or less following the recipe given at reference 1. Variation 1: used around four pints of water rather than three pints of  mixed stock and water. Variation 2: added three medium sized leeks - chopped once lengthwise then into about one inch chunks - to the frying onions. Variation 3: omitted the mushrooms. Variation 4: used topside, as snapped at reference 2, rather than brisket. It all turned out very well, with there being enough there for it to do duty tomorrow, perhaps fortified with a few mushrooms, with soup never being as good the second day. With plum crumble to follow. Not yet sure about whether to take it hot or cold.
