Following yesterday's success with pizza flour from Ponder's End and last month's purchase of Italian yeast (reference 1), this morning BH was able to buy some multi-grade flour from Italy from Sainsbury's. Plain flour, self raising flour, bun flour and bread flour all in one packet.
Well almost. Reading the bag more carefully, maybe the Italians don't make things like our sponge cakes and so have no need for our self-raising flour. Or maybe they are old fashioned and like to add stuff like soda-bic themselves.
So the flour trade's failure to respond to the surge in retail demand continues to pull all kinds of interesting and previously unheard of brands out of the warehouses. An opportunity missed, but also a splendid opportunity to unload all the slow-moving lines, to Spring clean all those warehouses.
