Having just faked a couple of lots of plastic flowers (fakes 70 and 71), it seems proper to notice some rather striking real flowers from the church of St. Mary the Virgin at Holne.
Noticed also for the spines on the interior of the petals, particularly as one nears the centre of the flower. Perhaps some quirk of the arrangements for fertilisation etc, the sort of thing which M. M. Proust went on about at great length, probably in 'Sodome et Gomorrhe', in connection with the Baron de Charlus.
Standard of flowers quite high in this church, so maybe they have nearly as many ladies on their flower rota as they have customers on Sundays. The place having the air of a church which was struggling to stay afloat.
