Fives

A purple version of the yellow flower with five pairs of petals snapped incidentally near Abbotsbury and noticed at reference 1. With this one being snapped rather nearer home, that is to say down Longmead Road. On closer inspection back home, probably not a close relative.

For the rest of the way home, I had kept an eye out for regular flowers, that is to say flowers with a simple, circular rosette of petals in the way of the buttercup, excluding flowers like daisies with lots of petals, ceanothuses with flowers too small to see clearly with the naked eye and roses which I would not know how to count, and I was surprised to find that nearly all the others came with five petals. The only exceptions were poppies which came with four.

Is the status of seven as top magic number under threat?
