Woolly gloves

There is a shop in Ewell Village selling country clothes and hats. Having had to retire a couple of pairs of woolly gloves over the past couple of weeks, I thought to give them a try. No, they didn't have any woolly gloves in stock but they did have a sister shop next to the Derby Arms, up on the downs, which did. Which puzzled me: we have passed the Derby Arms often enough, even used it on Derby Days, but I had never noticed a shop.

But yesterday we drove up there and there was indeed a shop, seemingly part of a fencing operation. And they sold a good selection of gloves. They explained that, apart from feeding the resident cats, they were shut on Derby Days which was perhaps why I had not noticed them.

Ultimately fell for a pair of neoprene gloves, slightly hardened for those that use their hands a bit, perhaps for holding the leads of dogs or the reins of horses. Much more comfortable than the woollen ones on offer. A first for me and we shall see how I get on. In any event, no darning for BH.

Not quite the same as an occasion some years before that, in the back bar, full of travelling people, cheerful and not aggressive, even towards gadjos (any relation to goyyim?), and smelling strongly of the stable. For some reason, I drank Newcastle Brown on that particular occasion.
