Table Water

Started on the Carr's flour noticed at reference 1 this morning, with report on that front to follow.

In the meantime, BH remembered about Carr's (table) water biscuits, almost certainly the same people. Google and Pinterest knew all about them too, turning up the snap left.

While I am old enough to remember when the dining cars on the trains to Plymouth (and beyond) used to serve something very similar by way of dessert; Stilton (wrapped in a cloth), celery and all.

Perhaps BH will buy some for a spot of nostalgia. Will Sainsbury's, from whom we got the flour, do the biscuits too?

While I will ponder about the phrase 'table water biscuits'. Does the table bit qualify the water or the biscuits? Where does the phrase come from? What is the relationship with Jacob's cream crackers? Which, according to Wikipedia, were invented in Dublin in the late nineteenth century - while I had always associated them with the cracker barrels of cowboy films. See reference 2.
