Huawei

I see another member of our ruling classes, this time the former chairman of BT, has decided to take the money. That is to say he has joined Huawei, this despite the reservations many western governments have about the heavy use we make of their equipment in or near our critical national infrastructures.

Joining John Suffolk who switched from being a securocrat here to a securocrat there, although he may, by now, have moved on. And not that far removed from the late leader of the Liberal Democrats who persuaded himself he could make a difference at Facebook. For a consideration, naturally.

Maybe it is all more complicated than at first appears. Maybe the chaps at No.10 hinted that they did not mind having some reliable ears and eyes on the other team. Against that, I don't suppose his Mandarin is up to much. Perhaps he is good at lip reading...

PS: even more money, one might say. I dare say the former chairman is already a very rich man, by the standards of most of us.
