At reference 1, I expressed irritation at the way that Sainsbury's dressed up their communications to their customers, in particular with the 'Dear Linda' business.
Notwithstanding, the cumulative effect has been rather impressive. We get one of these communications about every other day. Salutations apart, the tone is thoughtful and sober. We get told how things are evolving at Sainsbury's from both the point of view of stock and that of managing access to that stock. Arrangements to, in the words of St. Luke (14:21), 'bring in hither the poor, and the maimed, and the halt, and the blind'. Arrangements for social distancing.
As far as we are concerned, the communication department is earning its feed.
We presume that we don't get similar stuff from Tesco's because we don't use them as often and are not, I think, signed up as one of their loyal customers, brandishing appropriate plastic when we do use them.
PS: salutation pops up here because BH recently reminded me the we did not visit the Salutation Garden when we had the chance, when we holidayed near Sandwich. And now the hotel and event business which runs the garden has gone bankrupt and the future of the garden is uncertain. This despite it being one of the hidden gems of Kent, once or perhaps presently owned by celebrities, that is to say a couple of TV game show hosts. Not to be confused with the Salutation Inn in Topsham, at the other end of the country, a place which once sold us an excellent egg sandwich. The blue petals marks the spot, more or less in the middle of the snap above, with thanks to the Ordnance Survey. A town, in any event, well worth a second visit.
