Housekeeping

After a night's respite, we caught another mouse, the fifth this season, last night, that is to say Friday-Saturday. So despite best efforts of traps and the (busy) cat next door, they are still coming.

I decided that perhaps it was time I gave the right hand side of the garage a spring clean, that is to say move all the stuff out and give both it and the garage a good sweep. Which turned up several nests, not necessarily in use, involving a lot of what looked like yew kernels as well as assorted dust, dirt, fluff, hazel nut shells, snail shells and shredded plastic. Also the mummified rat, snapped left. Also one small patch of woodworm, which will be found a home at the bottom of the garden.

I even went to the length of washing the relevant length of floor with a solution of bleach, which will hopefully kill off anything left behind. The first time that I have ever done such a thing.

Left hand side maybe tomorrow.

No idea how long it is since I last had a spring clean, probably more than one year but less than five. So given that it is not practical to keep mice out of the garage - short of a major refurbishment - maybe something we ought to do every year going forward.

With a bonus that the modest stack of timber kept against the day it comes in useful - which it does from time to time - will be a lot tidier than it might otherwise be.
