Trolley 283

At an emergency meeting of the rules committee, convened this forenoon at TB, it was ruled that I was able to score this trolley, captured by BH yesterday in some charity shop within walking distance of Epsom Clock Tower.

Indeed, they went so far as to commend our imaginative interpretation of the rules.

But I was sorry to see at reference 1 that TB is up for rent again - at no less than £43,000 a year. Don't know whether that includes business rates, but it strikes me as a lot to pay, all things considered - so maybe this price include a little something for what the place might make if it were to be knocked down and the site recycled for flats. Not that I can complain, as while I have made some use of the place over the years, I barely use it now.

While some regulars will be sorry to see that the 'arms' bit of the name has resurfaced. The house is named for a horse which won the Derby in 1930, presumably not long before it was built, and while horses might carry colours for their owners, they certainly do not have arms - so including arms in the name is offensive to those regulars who follow the turf, that is to say a fair proportion of them.

There is also the consideration that the horse was named for a palace, or perhaps a battle, this last being named for a village near the Danube. But 'Blenheim' was neither the family name nor the lordly name of the chap who won the battle - so is not entitled to arms on that account either. Although, I suppose, there might once have been some foreigner called Count Blenheim who did carry arms. Not qualified for present consideration.
