Fourth blackberries

Perhaps the fourth and last blackberries, the BH appetite for same now being sated.

Going over the railway bridge at Ewell West yesterday, I noticed that the blackberry bushes down the grass bank overlooking the flats there were looking very well. The berries had clearly been brought on by the recent alternation of hot and wet weather, and were looking better than anything I have seen for some years. So a return visit later in the day was clearly indicated.

With the results suggested by the snaps above. The idea is to pick with one hand into the other, from time to time emptying the full hand into the small tub at one's feet, from time to time emptying the small tub into the large tub back at the bicycle. Thus minimising the walking time and maximising the picking time. Thus minimising the risk of loss through spillage. Total time around an hour.

There were lots more there, should any reader want some for himself.

Beyond the blackberries
The alternation of hot and wet weather seemed to have brought the Cycle Hub ecological roof on too, with it looking a bit more furry than it did last year, albeit at a different time of year. See reference 1.

Tray freezing now in progress, with the frozen berries being parcelled out into portion bags for use in the months to come.
