A year or so ago, I enrolled some fake dormers into the Order of Fakes and dormers remain a source of architectural irritation. See reference 1.
So returning a trolley to the main stack, visible at the bottom of the snap left, I was pleased to see that these dormers were slightly more real, and might even have had a ventilation function.
The roof as a whole is of course a fake, with the building as a whole being a large steel-framed shed, with a more or less flat roof. Pitched tiles just for show. Tesco's seem to be ahead of this particular wave of fashion, with a number of new build stores which do not pretend to be barns of old. The one, for example, at Ryde on the Isle of Wight - a handsome building. See reference 2.
