Vol.LXVI, No.18. In the course of an informative but depressing article about the goings on in the Kurdish north east of Syria, there was a small piece of entertainment.
It seems that the Kurds are cheating by deploying women's units to fight the Islamic State. Cheating because Islamic State fighters who die in righteous battle go straight to heaven where they are allocated a goodly supply of beautiful virgins - unless they had been killed by a woman, in which case the virgins are withheld. Seemingly important matters for those involved.
PS: going straight to heaven very much in the way of the early Christian martyrs, many of whom came from the same part of the middle east, getting on for a two thousand years ago now. And I now wonder what the arrangement was for all those crusaders who died for the cause in a nearby part of the middle east, getting on for just one thousand years ago?
