Wellingtonia 33

An unusually shaped Wellingtonia at Ewell Court House. More on this last in due course, but suffice it to say for the present that it was built by the proprietor of a gunpowder mill on the nearby Hogsmill in the late nineteenth century. Nothing to do with the administration of justice, civil or criminal. The same Hogsmill as has fish when it enters the Thames at Kingston. As noticed from time time, for example at reference 2.

Closer inspection reveals the tree to be double barrelled. Unusual, so presumably the result of some childhood trauma, at the very least of an unusual childhood.

PS: interested to read this morning of trouble at the Serious Fraud Office, recently the subject of seriously adverse comment in the Court of Appeal. An Office which is, I believe, making little headway against serious fraud, with several big investigations having collapsed in tears. Perhaps in this case, the Tory penchant for parachuting outsiders in to lead old fashioned organs of government has resulted in a clash of cultures, with the US and commercial cultures in these matters not sitting comfortably with our own. But at least the women's rights people will be pleased with them, as reference 3 shows four of the five people sitting at the top table to be women, including the boss.
