Fake 105 resumes the series of fakes after something of an interval, since the beginnings of lockdown, around three months ago now. It take the form of two paintings by Van Eyck, probably once the two outer wings of a triptych. An annunciation, figuring the Angel Gabriel left and the Virgin Mary right. Brought to me by my Phaidon book of same, a chuck out from Epsom Library, to which I shall return shortly.
Original held by the Thyssen-Bornemisza museum in Madrid, to be found at reference 2.
According to Wikipedia an early work of Van Eyck, in a style known as grisaille, often used to fake up statues in paint.
