From time to time I notice the flats being built by Zestan at the edge of Court Recreation Ground, with it being alleged that they are being paid for by a rich man from Russia who allows the workers, from other parts of east and central Europe, to sleep in the near completed flats. See references 1 and 2.
Construction which, it has to be said, seems to come in fits and starts, and which has been coming in for some years now, with the blog record going back to at least 2014 - for which see reference 3.
This morning, the flats looked 99% complete. Some of the kitchens looked as if they were pretty much there, but there were bags of cement visible elsewhere. The car park, which looked rather small given the size of the development, was empty, so probably no resident workers. But where are the actual residents? The people who are said to be desperate for housing in our green and pleasant borough?
For what it is worth, my own view was that these flats do not look at all bad. They are not a blight on Court Recreation Ground. And, apart from the rather squashed car park, a lot more effort had gone into their design than appears to have been the case with the flats that have been built in Station Approach. Maybe BH will be persuaded that we ought to ask to view - with there being an invitation to do just that on a large hoarding on the other side of the site.
PS: the grass in this snap, and in its friends, looks a bit plastic. But I think I would have noticed this morning if it really was.
