I have been down the Longmead Road a couple of times since the start of the recent rains, most recently this morning.
At this low point of the road, the stream was well up right and there was some standing water left, but there was no tide mark and the stream was a couple of feet short of bursting its banks. Perhaps Thames Water has unblocked something downstream, reducing the risk of this particular flood.
PS: I imagine you could make a very fair dam with a shopping trolley, various fallen branches and lots of fallen leaves and other litter. Furthermore, I remember as a child making surprisingly effective dams with just sticks and stones.
