Getting on for first fruits

The first black blackberries of the season, snapped on the bank on the Ewell Village side of the road bridge over the railway at Ewell West.

Probably not black enough to eat quite yet, and certainly not enough to be bothered with picking. With my getting going at the beginning of August last year, as noticed at reference 1.

In any event, we still have half a (frozen) portion left from last year, so there will not be much of a gap. Mostly used to flavour stewed apples.

On the Isle of Wight we saw plenty of blackberries, but none anywhere near as ripe as these. One might think that it was a bit warmer on the island than it is here in Epsom, but maybe this south facing bank is a particularly good spot.

PS: the snap above has been enlarged, it being too bright to see what I was doing on the screen of my telephone and get to the proper distance. Other people seem to manage well enough out in the sun, so perhaps my Microsoft Lumia is showing its age a bit. It could also do with a bit more storage given the number of snaps I take.
