After an interval of around eight months, over the past four or five evenings we have got around to taking another look at the lush costume drama which the BBC (and others) made out of Mrs. Gaskell's 'Wives and Daughters'. And it went down very well, making a pleasant change to watch something with a bit more content than your average episode of 'Poirot' or 'Midsomer Murders'. Only the odd twinge caused by anachronisms gross enough to notice in the flow of the story. And only slightly irritated by the grand scale on which a country doctor seemed to be able to live; maybe I should take a look at the near contemporary 'Dr. Thorne' from the Trollope stable, for a second opinion.
So we have done rather well for our fiver from Amazon.
I have also tracked the book down to the front room bookcase, so maybe that gets another outing too.
PS: Thorne seems to have held his price rather too well at Amazon, at around £15. So perhaps something to keep an eye out for at CeX.
