As of an hour or so ago, that is to say around 1530, the mystery seedling of reference 1 was still there and had more or less recovered from being knocked down by the wind and the rain. Current betting is potato, with the mystery seedling being on the right and a Bing-certified potato seedling on the left. The mystery seedling is a bit feeble and there is only one shoot, but this might be explained by it being the wrong time of year. Otherwise, the leaves look to be in the right formation and with the right veining - if a bit smooth. So still not sure - beyond being fairly sure that it is not a cucumber or something of that sort, as at first thought.
If it were a potato, that would mean that a lump of potato had survived long enough in the brick compost heap to turn up here. The compost heap is probably not very hot, being short on fat and protein, so maybe not even hot enough to kill off potatoes. Maybe, even, just right to preserve them until conditions seem right. Rather more plausible, maybe some recent kitchen waste fell in among the old kitchen waste and wound up where it is now along with the latter.
The suggestion from our consultant was that we should bring it in for kitchen window sill nurture, but I don't think that is going to happen. Nor is Google Lens, which only seems to be available on telephones, and not on Microsoft telephones at that. Google Image Search was quite unhelpful on this occasion. So all in all, the most likely outcome is that the frost will get whatever it is before too long and we shall never know.
