The coastal redwood, sequoia sempervirens, proudly reported at reference 1 appears to have been an error, as the tree is now turning brown and appears to be losing its needles.
I failed to stop this morning, but I did notice in passing that there were not many, if any branches within reach from ground level, although the short needles did look to be round rather than flat - with coastal redwoods being flat, as in the snap above. Like a yew as far as that goes. I shall try to remember to stop next time I pass, to try to snap the leaves up close.
Current theory larch, but having failed once, clearly need to get it right this time.
This snap provided by the nursery at reference 2, in New Zealand, where I believe these trees do rather well. About 30NZ$ or £15 a pop - which sounds quite reasonable - although I couldn't find a picture of what you actually get for your money.

Reference 3: https://psmv4.blogspot.com/2020/09/wellingtonia-18.html. Well over a month now since the last scoring Wellingtonia. Action this day, to use a phrase from the world of work.
