Failure

The attempt to get a birth certificate online noticed at reference 1 has failed and half our money has been refunded. Which is fair enough, but it would have been better had it all worked.

I wonder why it is not possible to search the registers online, in the way that one would have done offline at Somerset House in the olden days. Dim memories of a large reading room full of large ledgers for one to search for one's entry.

We have not yet worked out what we have done wrong and we are considering our position. Maybe it is time to search the attic, once again, for the original?

PS: amused to read today of an unseemly squabble about garden hedges in the highest reaches of Credit Suisse. With one of those involved now having hoofed it to UBS, perhaps taking his super star clients with him. One might have thought that people who presumably earn millions of pounds a year would be above this sort of thing - but BH tells me it that is just what she would expect from the very driven, very high octane executives of said highest reaches. Which is as it may be, but they are clearly not gentlemen.
