A return to the Ewell Village anti-clockwise this morning. Having realised why I prefer the Jubilee Way anti-clockwise for cycling purposes: all the major turns are left turns, much easier on a busy road on a cycle than right turns. BH tells me that she knows of some car drivers who take the same line. The only catch with Jubilee Way being a couple of places where a cycle lane merges with the main carriageway, places where I really ought to stop and look, neck swivelling not being what it used to be.
A first visit for a while to what passes for Epsom Post Office these days. And very friendly they were too.
A first visit for a while to CeX to see what they could offer in the way of boxed sets, the Freeview offering not having been too clever just lately.
A first, in that I took a break on a seat in some shade under a tree, at the top of the alley which leads to West Street from the top of Ewell Village, about half way round. Some water and a welcome rest. I had started early but it was still pretty warm by 10:30.
Then wound up with a first visit for a while to CostCutter in Manor Green Road. Some of their in-store rolls to be made into cheese and tomato rolls for lunch: a delicacy which used to be commonly sold in public houses, but is now quite hard to come by outdoors. And a Guardian by way of antidote to too-exclusive diet of FT.
PS: my understanding is that food hygiene regulations meant that it stopped being worthwhile for pub keepers' wives to do rolls and sandwiches on the side. Maybe the tax people found out about it too. And now we don't have many old-style pub keepers anyway. Nearly all managers for chains large and small - and the manager at TB once told me that chains generally take a very dim view of managers freelancing on their menus. The menu, the menu and nothing but the menu.
