BH got her Christmas card from Sainsbury's yesterday, dressed up to look a bit like an Advent calendar. It came with a letter which told her that she was a champion shopper, having made purchases from 438 distinct lines, presumably over the past year. Then first shopper of some kind of raisins, first shopper of leeks and second shopper of blue berries. Not clear what the competition is. Maybe second shopper over the past three months among pensioner ladies who shop at the Kiln Lane superstore on Tuesday mornings?
She thought that more than 400 lines was plausible, despite the regularity of her regular shopping, given her steady sprinkling of non-grocery and off-piste grocery purchases. This despite buying no ready meals, very little processed food and virtually no booze, this last being my department. And where I am very much a creature of habit. But no idea how many lines I clock up in a year: something to reflect on on my way around Jubilee Way this morning.
