Getting porn

As far as I can tell from an article in today's FT, it seems that getting online porn has never been easier - in part paid for by the masters of porn being very fast off the blocks with cunningly targeted, pay-per-click online advertising. Beating Google at their own game. A sort of porn version of YouTube. Lots of free content provided by members of the public, quite a lot of it stolen. Lots of premium content which you have to pay for. Millions and millions of customers. With an outfit (which I had not previously heard of) called MindGeek in the lead.

Complicated corporate structures. Lots of subsidiaries in small islands you have never heard of. No doubt complicated arrangements for the payment or non-payment of taxes. In the case of MindGeek, a lot of expensive debt to service. Much turmoil in the manufacturing side of the industry. Hefner turning in his grave.

It would be interesting to compare notes with online gambling, another rather unsavoury business which has a great many customers and which makes a great deal of money.

PS: Montreal headquarters of MindGeek snapped above. On the western fringe of the city proper, not far from where my mother went to school (Westmount High) or from where she went to university (McGill). Legal headquarters tucked away in far away Luxembourg.
