Hiram

From time to time I notice the Hiram Butler Gallery of Houston, to be found in leafy splendour at reference 1. With the first such notice to be found at reference 2.

I have been reminded of them by the latest number of the NYRB, which featured the picture above, the work of one Ellen Gallagher. A lady, some of whose works have made it to Tate Junk, that is to say the east end one rather than the west end one. Perhaps she is a graduate of one of those master classes put on by Trace n'Hirst on how to extract money from people with money to spend, people with art budgets. And with money having no smell, they are just as happy with gullible public buyers as with gullible private buyers.
