At 0517 this morning a slug - that is to say some kind of terrestrial gastropod - was intercepted on the kitchen floor. About 4cm long, 4mm wide, two horns and dark in colour. Intercepted heading away from the refrigerator door and is now outside the back door.
An immediate inquiry has been launched under the leadership of an experienced housewife. A report, including recommendations for action, if any, will be available by close today.
It may well turn out that this incursion is related either to yesterday's more or less continual rain or to the arrival of the weekly shopping in the course of the morning - or to both.
