Parakeets

The middle sized oak tree in the middle of our back garden is just presently (around 1915 local time) hosting a small flock of the ring necked parakeets which are common hereabouts, having gradually spread out from their starting point in Ham Common, a little to the north.

They seem to be grazing on what I take to be the not yet ripe acorns, of which there looks to be a good crop this year. They seem to be able to perch with one foot while holding an acorn up to their beak with the other foot. Presumably the unripe acorn is no match for the beak.

PS: image taken from Bing, my telephone not being much good at this sort of thing.
