Cucumbers

We took our first Toller grown ridge cucumber for getting on for fifteen years today, inspection of the archive suggesting that the last time was in the second half of 2006, as can be seen from the end of the list turned up by the search at reference 1. Very good it was too; a pleasant change from our usual offering from Sainsbury's.

I am also reminded that at the fag-end of the allotment era, I had taken to threshing the cucumbers to recover the seeds. What happened to the seeds afterwards is not recorded. Or if it is, I haven't found it yet.

Also of the Ascolan cucumber, which I used to go to see from time to time at the National Gallery. See reference 2. Included above as the National Gallery web site tells me that it is not presently on view. Sadly, the colours don't seem right at all, despite the image file I took from Wikipedia being near 7Mb, but it does as an aide-memoire.
