Piano 43

Piano 43 was captured in the church of St Mary-le-Strand, a church I have not visited for some years now.

A slightly shabby Schiedmayer, with this last being a respectable Stuttgart piano maker, which according to reference 1 started out towards the end of the 18th century and wound up towards the end of the 20th century. The first such that I have come across.

Respectable, but they also dabbled in the unorthodox, instruments such as celestas and glockenspiels.

This particular piano looks to have been made in Stuttgart, although Bing tells me that towards the end of its life, the brand name was appropriated by others, in both England and Japan. While I wonder whether the lion & unicorn designs visible to the left and right of the name have anything to do with being by appointment to a majesty.

PS: behind the piano, to the right, we have the unusual pulpit.
