Nuthatch back again, around 08:15 this Tuesday morning. On this occasion running around the trunk of the middle sized oak tree behind the three mini-ponds - not seeming to care much whether its beak is pointing up or down. Wouldn't do for me at all: I don't think I would last long at all suspended head down. Plus a ground level foray around the base of the trunk, from where it was seen off by a wood pigeon. There may have been two of them, but that was just a glimpse rather than a tweet.

Plus BH claims the odd tweet of same since that noticed at reference 1, from the second half of February.

Plus, a few minutes later, a mystery. Couple of flashes of yellow as two birds crossed the back lawn, from left to right, parking up in the sick bay tree just across our northern fence. Got the monocular on one of them, and all I could think of was a very small version of a spotted woodpecker, about the size of a small thrush. At which point it was back across the lawn again, leaving me with no idea as to what it might have been. All very tiresome.
