Following the tweet noticed at reference 1, a fortnight ago, the sightings of coal tits have continued, most often in and around the southern hedge. I am starting to get the idea that they may be nesting there. At the very least, taken up temporary residence.
I have not seen them at the feeder, but then feeder activity has dropped right off, so there must be enough food about otherwise, presumably waking insects and swelling buds. And I do see the coal tits in the apple tree just across the fence from the feeder, where the buds are, indeed, swelling nicely.
