DIY

I can tell that Spring is on the way as BH has been threatening to give the study a going over. To which my response today has been to take charge of the going over by doing it myself. Any excuse not to get on with the back door upgrade consequent upon reference 1.

I decided that the focus of the going over was to be a reorganisation of the rugs, moving up from two to three, pressing one long service rug which had been put in the attic back into service. All this meant moving most of the furniture out, albeit not all at once.

So all the curios and memorabilia on top of a bookcase had to be taken down, which reminded me what a pain to the two book ends were, bought from a tenner in a stall in the little craft market that used to be held in a dead corner of Charing Cross station. Interesting to look at, but pretty useless as book ends as even the maps and pamphlets they were supposed to contain were apt to take charge.

I have put up with this for years, but today decided that enough was enough, and the two bookends have been converted into a small bookcase by fixing them to a bit of brown wood which once part of a large drawer. One of those small jobs which soak up a large amount of time when one does not have a proper workshop, ready to go 24 by 7. Nevertheless, happy with the result illustrated.

The curios and memorabilia may get back up there tomorrow, but we are still thinking about that one, quite liking the present lack of clutter.
