A radiator in the café at Puckpool Park, painted up to look like copper. At least I suppose that what was going on, with the equation being that copper equalled posh. Rather as the outside of some saucepans is painted up to look like copper. Hard to see that one would do it for visual attraction.
While I remember the bad old days when my parents used to make jam in a big copper jam pan that was solid copper, no paint at all, with just the two handles being brass. I think the idea was that being a good conductor, the pan was less likely to have hot spots and that, in consequence, the jam was less likely to stick or burn. Generally speaking though, the acid in the hot fruit meant that the inside of the pan was very clean & shiny after a batch of jam, with the un-clean having migrated into our jam, along with a mere sprinkling of copper.
