Some printed material comes with a really unpleasant smell, a smell I associate with overheated plastic. Calendars from concert halls and colour supplements from newspapers are particular culprits.
While today, our brown rice acquired a similar smell, which did not improve the eating experience.
Investigating, it turns out that the plastic bag in which it came was the probable source of the smell, which then soaked into the rice and survived onto our luncheon table. All very unfortunate as the rice itself was otherwise fine. As was the stuff which came with the rice.
I shall return the bag to the customer service desk at Sainsbury's tomorrow. I expect they will offer to refund the 50p or so that it cost, but whether they do anything about the smell is another matter. Maybe they just file such matters in the bin.
PS: bag now given in to customer services. The lady there took a proper interest, logged the detail and refunded the £1.70. But she did not take my contact details, so I won't get to hear about the progress of the matter through the Sainsbury's quality control system. Would I have done better to mail the bag direct to HQ?
