When we were young

When we were young, it was considered OK to go in for imaginative play with dolls and such like. When we were old, it was still considered OK, provided one had the alibi of small children or grandchildren supervising. As things stand, the alibi is absent - but we are carrying on regardless, at least in a small way, with Yuri, Pedro and Polly.

So Yuri (the chap in a space suit, left), Pedro and Polly decided that it was time for their breakfast. In the snap above, they are just getting reading to dive off their perches on the blocks of dates, into the porridge, which they take without sugar. Polly had been naughty, so she had to stand on a block by herself. That apart, a good time was had by all, after which I was able to add some sugar and get on with my breakfast.

At which point, Baby Bear, remembering that porridge is the foundation of some glues, decided that Yuri, Pedro and Polly needed a bath to wash off all the porridge before it set on them.

I got on with my bread and cheese. About a pound of Lincolnshire Poacher is still left after breakfast and if the supplies ordered last night from Neal's Yard Dairy turn up by around this time next week, all should be well.

PS 1: one of the oyster knives, first noticed at reference 1, and now mainly used for peeling oranges for breakfast, is visible in both snaps.

PS 2: block dates from a date dealer in Cullompton in Devon, via Grape Tree, via mail order. Almost as important to the household economy as cheese.
