Off-piste pudding

I have been buying black and white puddings for some time, with the first white pudding going back to an Irish butcher in Camden Road, possibly very near the station there, in the mid 1970's. Lately we have been buying just white puddings, usually from Slomers (snapped at reference 1) from the butcher in Manor Green Road, but artisanal from Devon when opportunity offers - as it did, earlier this year, in Yelverton, an occasion noticed at reference 2.

A few days ago, happening to be in the Manor Green Road for some genuine, dry-cured bacon, I thought to ask for a white pudding and he could only manage a half. Which would not do at all, so for the first time for a very long time, I bought a black pudding.

Of which we took half, sliced and lightly fried in rape seed oil, with brown bread, for supper yesterday (that is Thursday) evening. Very good it was too. Supper was the right option, as while we can still do a whole white pudding with two veg., fried and boiled respectively, I don't think we could manage a whole black any more.
