Fake 115

Scored the first fake for a while this morning, just off Horton Lane, on a Wellingtonia hunt to be reported in full in due course. With this fake taking the form of a full format plastic hedge, fronting something called 'Parkview'. A something which was very keen on privacy.

The place was clearly visible in gmaps, next to the Apple Tree Day Nursery, this last located in a substantial house, perhaps once the superintendent's house for what was once the West Park Hospital, what used to be called a Mental Hospital or an Asylum. But neither Bing nor Google could tell me anything about Parkview. The Land Registry knew about the address, but could not add any value.

Then I thought to ask the Epsom planning people, and their database revealed first a rejected application (13/00463/OUT) in 2013 to build a care home and second an accepted application (18/00646/MMA) in 2018 to build a house. An application which includes elevations which look very like what can be seen of this building over the fake hedge.

A building designed by the Lusher Architects of the Barbican. So what we appear to have is a high end house designed by a high end architect in a rather odd location and finished off with a fake hedge. All very odd.

All this on the site of what had been the Sports & Social Club for the staff of the hospital.

There is also the matter of nearby Hollywood Lodge, somewhere else which once functioned as the superintendent's house. Said to have been sold off for £1 as part of closing down West Park Hospital, presumably encumbered with restrictive covenants, as the place has been derelict since, with the surrounding ground seemingly taken by travelling people to graze their horses. A botched sale?

Is the KR Health and Social Care Group the common thread here?

PS: today's mystery ad from Google is for a popular personals web site for lively singles. I hope the site did not have to pay Google too much for pushing this ad in my direction.
