The real thing?

Having noticed the other day, at reference 1, a rather puny candidate honey fungus, I came across a much more likely candidate a few roads across, probably in what was left of the stump of some long demolished tree or shrub. About a foot across.

Some of the books I have consulted make much of unsightly white growths, near the ground, on the bark of the victim. But the stuff snapped above seems a much better reason for the name of honey: a proper colour for honey.
