The Wellingtonia |
The seventeenth Wellingtonia, also from Wisley, was scored not far from the main eateries, at the entrance to the northern arboretum. Some way from No.16.
The coastal redwood |
In fact, one of a handsome pair of trees, the one a coastal redwood and the other the Wellingtonia, standing out above their neighbours and well visible round about. For some reason the Wellingtonia was fenced off, but by stretching I could touch a bough, so it was scorable.
They may well have been planted at the same time, but the coastal redwood was a good head taller than its cousin. It also had a much cleaner, more cylindrical trunk.
The red splodge upper right fails to compute. Something to be checked when we next visit.
