The mystery at Ewell West, noticed at reference 1, has now been solved. Maybe the chap behind the window got tired of curious pensioners and made head office send him some leaflets - not that I noticed that they were there until he pointed them out: new footbridge, with lifts.
Which probably accounts for the borehole activity a few months ago, near the old footbridge. Maybe they were hoping to put the new one there, but decided that the ground conditions were not suitable.
My first thought was that this was an awful lot of money to be spent to help the modest number of wheelchair users on our trains. A charge dumped on the railway operators by the railway regulators - rather in the way of a lot of other health, safety and diversity measures. Off government balance sheet.
But on return, BH reminded me that there are plenty of other people who would welcome lifts: mothers with children, people with luggage and older people generally. I might be one myself someday. So perhaps a rolling programme of improvement is a reasonable response to these needs, with Worcester Park having been done a few years ago.
