Pork soup without the trimmings

Pork soup this lunchtime, with the last occasion probably being that noticed at reference 1. Two months ago now.

Slight increase - from three to four ounces of pearl barley - and significant decrease in the number of mushrooms, being down to two and a half today. But they were quite big. The pork was ready chopped 400g of pork from Sainsbury's which BH deemed had, at six months or so, been in the freezer for long enough. I made the mistake of not washing it before adding it to the pearl barley, which resulted in a lot of unsightly white stuff coagulating in the hot water. Fortunately it was easy enough to fish out. And while the pork was perfectly serviceable, it was not as good looking or as good tasting as the tenderloin we usually use for the purpose. Otherwise, pretty much the same as last time, ending up with between four and five pints of hearty soup. Something more than half done for lunch, followed by fresh date slice, with the date mash in the middle being just warm. Just right. But no wine on this occasion, it being unusual for us to take wine at lunchtime, other than on a Sunday.

PS: I had been amused earlier in the day to read that our fat leader has decided that his pairing with Trump, as baby Trump or otherwise, is no longer to be encouraged. Pairing with the solemn & serious Macron is now the order of the day. A shift which is perhaps mainly due to Trump losing and only partly due to his gross & conspicuous failure to observe electoral decencies.
